Dec 12th 2008---Rory Devlin has been chosen as North Pole Cyclist of the Year 2008.

Michael Mc Kenna,Secretary,Emyvale Cycling Club and Kenny Dunlop, Fivemiletown were guest speakers at North Pole Cycling Club's Annual Awards held at The Lake of Shadows Hotel on Friday night last. Almost 160 members and guests attended the function. The premier award of the night,Cyclist of the Year was won by Rory Devlin in a hotly contested competition between 12 nominated cyclists.The choice of winner was made by ballot of the 85 club members.Rory Devlin was a deserving winner after a busy season,his first year at road racing.

He competed in the Mooney Cup in Sligo,the Mc Cann Cup in Omagh,the John Deere Classic in Letterkenny,the Emyvale GP in Monaghan,the Ras Dun na Gall in Killybegs and won an All Ireland Gold Medal in the team event of the Mamore Hillclimb.He finished the road racing season with a fine performance in The Tour of the Lakes at Drumfrees in late August.

He also represented his club in numerous club races against Four Masters CC and Roe Valley CC. Rory rarely missed any of North Pole's numerous leisure events.


Rory is seen in above photo receiving the award from Mickie Mc Kenna.He will also get his Club and Cycling Ireland memberships for 2009 paid as part of the award.

The year past,2008 will be remembered as the year in which North Pole Cycling Club first entered a cyclist in a National Road Race. As we enter 2009 we can expect many more ventures by the club into the competitive world of road racing and time-trialing.Watch this space!

North Pole Cyclist of the Year 2008 will be chosen from the 12 monthly 'cyclists of the month'. Voting will be by secret ballot of all paid up North Pole Members and will take place in December. The winner will receive free North Pole and Cycling Ireland membership and a trophy.
