RoryDevlin,North Pole Cycling Club's super-star won a very decisive victory in the Phoenix Grand Prix 'B' race on Sunday last.Riding in his first season with an open licence Rory rode a very tactical race between 66 riders. He had lots of winter training between road work and spin classes at Buncrana Leisure Centre and was waiting patiently for the racing season to start. The previous day he started the Annaclone Cup race in Banbridge only to bow out with a puncture.
In Sundays race in the Village of Crumlin,Co.Antrim he started with the very experienced new signing for North Pole,Jim Doyle and newcomer to the racing scene Kieran Eccles as his team mates.Kieran had to withdraw early with stomach problems but he enjoyed his first day in an open race.Joanne Doran gave a great performance in the ladies race coming in 9th from a field of 24.Jim Doyle finished 15th having lost his line at the last turn as riders jostled for position. But for that it could have been a share of the points for him.
Team manager Carl Fullerton said that he had never doubted Rory's ability and looks forward to a very busy racing season with Rory and some of the other rising stars in North Pole. The next big event will be the John Deere Race in Letterkenny on Sunday 15th March hosted by Four Masters CC.North Pole will have a squad of 6 riders for that event. These will be chosen from a panel consisting of Rory Devlin,Jim Doyle,Patrick Mc Callion,Kieran Eccles,Jim Porter,Patrick Doherty,Cathal Wilson.Christian Mc Ginley,Jimmy Mc Laughlin,Kenny Doyle,Owenie Mc Kinney and Pat Mc Laughlin.
